Necron Lord complete..

Finally managed to finish off the other Necron Lord I have.. only the monolith and 5 more immortals to go.. and the monolith will require a tin of black spray paint before I go any further with it.. just because I can't quite get into all the nooks and crannies..

Tuesday night battle..

585 points.. Necrons vs Marines

A lot of shooting resulted in 1 immobilised Dreadnaught and a killed squad of terminators.. Woo!

Warscythes are interesting for combat.. especially since you loose the shooting attack.. but the plus side is the total inability to save against the wounds.. 4 attacks on the charge.. bonus!

Nightbringer

Just finished the nightbringer and I'm actually happy with it.. it's layered.. and although I'll likely end up stripping the model at a later date to re-paint it.. I like it..

2000 points ish vs Smurfs & Sisters of Battle

Right.. found a little gaming venue that's dirt cheap and close enough to work so I'm not taking the piss with my transport requirements..

I fielded 2100 ish points of Necrons:

JonJon had roughly 1000 points of Smurfs and Tim brought about the same for Sisters of Battle. Tim joined late and brough his forces in from reserves except for the ones that chose to deepstrike.

Highlights:
Wraith unit assaulting into a squad of Sisters and wiping them out completely.

Lowlights:
Flayed Ones coming in from deepstrike on turn 3 and scattering into a squad of marines, I roll a 1 on the deepstrike mishap table and there goes the unit of flayed ones..

Ultimate Lowlight: Gemma's Mum's house was broken into so we called the game early, Tim packed up all the stuff whilst Jon & I hauled backside to the house..

Immediate thoughts on my army.. More Destroyers are needed.. 1 unit of 3 are way too fragile. More Heavy Destroyers are needed.. the Nightbringer is a beast in combat, but my dice rolling is well iffy.. I might be better off fielding a second lord either on a Destroyer body or on foot and some Monoliths to work against armour.. also, the Nightbringer's Etheric Tempest ability is very badly worded and took a good 10 minutes of re-reading to get it to work right..

and only 5 others left.. and I've got a deceiver and a nightbringer to sort out.. I know how I want them to look.. now it's just making my hands make it happen..

Gaming tomorrow with JonJon after work.. apparently he's not played Necrons before.. so it'll be interesting to see how he copes with it..

cometh.. I have one deceiver and one nightbringer all base coated and ready for some paint.. I'm thinking of starting with the deceiver as it's all metallic.. then having a go at shading for the nightbringer.. it'll be fun..

No further progress

Strangely.. no painting got done last night.. as I ran out of black paint.. d'oh!

1 down.. almost.. just need to snow flock the base and it's done.. 14 left and the wraith.. and the lord.. and I'd like to get it done for the weekend.. fingers crossed.. took me ages to just undercoat 5 models last night.. will see how it goes.. don't know why, but for some reason the paint is a little on the thin side and won't adhere properly to the metal.. maybe they just need a wash with some warm soapy water to remove any mould freeing residue..

Immortals, Lords and Wraiths

So.. a pleasant Saturday of modelling has now got 15 immortals, 1 lord and 1 surprise present wraith ready for painting.. I'm thinking that will happen tonight.. just need to dig out a couple of the older ones so that I match up the paint scheme.. it's been a little while since I've painted them..

Necron Immortals..

argh.. ok.. I like to paint necrons as they give you a good sense of accomplishment.. you get a lot done quickly.. but.. these immortals take me approximately 30 minutes to clean up and put together .. each.. so 15 immortals at 30 minutes a piece.. yeah.. you do the math.. oh well..

Whirlwind.. but no box..

D'oh! In dropping off a load of boxes to Games Workshop I forgot to leave one behind for my newly finished Whirlwind.. whoops! Oh well.. I'll pick up a few more in the office.. now.. what else to paint.. I'm suffering from boredom of painting marines.. and lacking space to put anything else on the painting tray.. argh.. oh well.. will just have to push on with the blood angels to clear a little more space.. I think finishing off the second whirlwind will clear some space.. so two-three coats of red needed.. then metallics and the usual gubbins..

Oh.. almost finished the teleport homer.. so some progress is made.. I think a squad of necron immortals will be next up.. as they are simple and I enjoy the models they will make a nice change..

Whirlwind..

is nearing completion.. just need to paint the missiles and then sort out what's happening with the missile rack on the side.. can't remember if I was going to green stuff it or what.. so remaining to paint on the whirlwind are the yellow sections for the searchlights and headlamps.. then the double eagle.. then the scroll work and the windows and such that need green.. then it's complete..

So remaining on the painting tray : 1 x Whirlwind, 1 x Dreadnaught, 1 x Attack Bike, 1 x Teleport Homer, 1 x Landspeeder, 5 x Eldar Warp Spiders... argh... need to cut down on new purchases.. or cut down on the new purchases making it on to the tray so quickly..

Spray gun..

Finally the Citadel Air Brush/Spray Gun has been released.. and naturally I bought it.. good news.. the two coats of foundation paint on my whirlwinds went on really well and I've got a really really smooth base coat.. bad news.. I think a tin of propellant will only work for about 2 coats on 2 tanks.. then I developed some kind of air bubble in the tubing that meant I was getting no paint and all air..

Ah well.. I shall experiment with it a little more..

I've managed to get two coats of red and a lot of the undercoating for the metallics on one whirlwind done.. we'll see how it comes out.. I figure I should be able to get that completed in one evening..

To change things up just a touch, I've bought a pack of Eldar Warp Spiders.. because I like the models.. a lot.. just need to try and paint them up to do them justice.. and need to figure out how to do the base in something different from all my existing ones.. maybe something involving some cut up wood.. and if those bore me I have 11 Necron Immortals that need trimming and then painting.. those can probably all be done in one evening as my painting Necrons involves nothing but 4 colours.. a black undercoat, boltgun metal, shining gold and scorpion green.. it's why I have the shiny-est Necrons around.. heh..

Correction

Drop pod #1 is now finished.. :) found some areas where the outside shell red had leaked on to the yellow hazard stripes..

I've also found a little time to go through my Necron models.. if everything were together and painted I'd have approximately 1800 points worth.. not bad.. but not enough.. I may make a quick change up and switch back to Necrons for a little while.. just to make a change of course.. :)

and once again the Eldar Warp Spider models are calling me... sigh..

Progress..

I can honestly say that I'm on a roll.. I haven't been this productive with models and painting in a long time...

Drop Pod #1 is complete.. stripped, metallics done, another coat of red and some interior detailing.. (reminder to self.. paint the damn stormbolter inside the pod before you assemble it)..

Drop-podding..

With the aid of some masking tape.. the hazard stripes on the drop pod are almost done.. just needs one highlight coat of bright yellow and then they are done.. three coats of red on the panels are done.. so then it's touch ups and the metallics.. then the drop pod is done.. I'm figuring a few more hours worth of work tops.. should be accomplished soon.. :)

I've realised since winter is setting in that most of the heating in my room seems to escape up my curtains and out the window.. so I usually push the curtains up on to the windowsill and the room stays warm.. slight problem.. I have a whirlwind, a landspeeder, an attack bike and a teleport homer on the windowsill.. they have now been moved and will be the first items to see the painting tray as space clears.. starting with the teleport homer (which will be used as a random objective marker.. since Blood Angels can't have teleport homers..) and the attack bike..

Painting tray : 1 drop pod, 1 whirlwind, 1 dreadnaught, 1 teleport homer and 1 attack bike.. oh dear..

Devastators done..

Hurrah! Devastator squad is done.. wasn't too tough to finish them off.. am now debating a 5 man squad of devastators with plasma cannons.. although saying that I also need to buy a box of assault squad troopers to finish off my veteran assault squad.. and more troop choices are needed.. just realised.. out of the 4300 points of painted Blood Angels I only have 4 troop choices, 2 tactical squads, 1 5 man assault squad, 1 10 man assault squad.. more troops would be a good idea.. at least 1 or 2 more ten man squads outfitted with power fists..

Of course the whole thing relies on me having Rhinos as well.. so I'm going to have to get some more transports..

Finally put two coats of red on the drop pod.. I think the hazard stripes aren't going to be too hard to do.. might just need a little more time.. the vermin brown to yellow transition works better and smoother and with less coats.. so that's a total result!

Will need to make a move on the Whirlwind as I have the other one upstairs already painted and another landspeeder, both are on my windowsill and I'm going to need to move them so my room isn't so cold in the morning.. once I've done the drop pod or the dreadnaught I'll move them to the painting table..
